Breckenridge

The first week in August we packed up and went to our end of summer happy place!  Come August it is 100+ in OKC and we are all ready for a little break from the heat.  So here we come Breckenridge!  We were all in need of some time outdoors!

This is the first year we have driven to Breck.  All road trips need an unplanned stop to make the trip a success, so our unplanned stop was the Royal Gorge.  So cool and a great break from driving!

The wind was strong which caused the bridge to sway like crazy.  Harper and Mason had some nerves crossing the bridge but we did it!
Look at that wind blown hair . . .

Of course we had to find the Oklahoma flag!

We walked the bridge one way and took the gondola back across!  A tad scary but such AMAZING views!

After a few hours at the Royal Gorge, M crashed when we got back in the car.  This was the ONLY nap of the entire road trip to Breck and back.
We chartered a boat on Lake Dillon for our first morning in Breck.  Mason talks about wanting to fish on a boat everyday of his life, so his wish came true!  We didn't have much luck catching fish but we had amazing scenery and had a great time!

This was the one and only rainbow trout we caught and it became our dinner appetizer later that evening!

After a morning on Lake Dillon we hiked up to the old Dillon Resevoir for more fishing and more great views!

Couldn't pass up the opportunity to capture the Miller trio and this breathtaking view!

Later that afternoon the Nelson's arrived, which is Jackson's best friend Carter's family!  We didn't waste a minute and took them fishing!
Love these 5 kids!
The next day we drove up the mountain to bike Vail Pass, which is a 15 mile ride, almost all downhill.  I was a little nervous the kids would struggle with too much speed and not enough braking but they all did great!  Such an amazing ride and so much fun!  You have 4 hours to complete the ride so you can make stops along the way.  We stopped in Cooper for drinks and appetizers and a little break on the booties.  The van picked us up in Frisco, which was the end of the downhill path.
Such a fun travel crew!
Loaded up and ready to ride!

I sure hope Jackson and Carter stay such good friends over the years!  These two boys sure have a lot in common and are so fun to be around!

The dads decided to ride the uphill portion from Frisco to Breckenridge.  Kids and moms weren't up for the challenge so we headed back to Breck and took the gondola up the mountain.  The boys had a pull-up challenge on the ride up the mountain.

Our final day in Breck, we had to hit up our favorite spot, Montgomery Reservoir.  The kids were so excited to show the Nelson family our happy place!  We had such great luck fishing.  All the kids caught at least one rainbow trout and they were all a decent size!  Jackson had to work for this one!

Harper and Adley have such a sweet friendship.  Harper was so motherly to Adley, which was so fun to watch.   They both loved every minute of our trip together!

After a morning of fishing we hiked up by the waterfalls and had a picnic lunch!

That evening we ran into one of Harper's softball buddies in town.  Love these two girls!
Any free time at the house was spent playing football or catch.  Harper even got in on the last football game of the trip.  These kids crashed hard each evening after full days outside!
Breckenridge sure was fun and even more fun making memories with our friends!  Such a great end to summer.  Now back to reality, school starting, endless sports and constant craziness.  Until next time . . .
