Kansas City Getaway

After our successful first ski trip last year we knew we had to get the kids back on the slopes!  Unfortunately with the kids crazy sports schedules it was hard finding a time to break away!  Thanks to a few recommendations we were able to sneak away for the most perfect 48 hrs of fun!  It's not the first (second, third or fourth) place that comes to mind when thinking of skiing but we packed up and drove to Kansas City for the weekend!

We left after Saturday morning basketball games and drove the 4.5 hours north to Kansas City.  First stop in KC was the NCAA College Basketball Experience.  We all had the best time!  There were so many interactive basketball games/scenarios.  Perfect for my basketball loving kids!
 testing their vertical jump . . .
 free throw competition . . .

free throw competition with a distracting crowd in the background . . .

buzzer beater competition . . . you had to dribble to the spot that lit up and drain a buzzer beater shot

Tyler beat the high score for the day on the free throw competition!  He made 21 free throws in 60 seconds.
 Passing competition . . .

Next stop Boulevard Brewing Company!  Adult drinks for mom and dad and local root beer for the kids!  Cheers to a fun afternoon!

The next morning we loaded up and drove 40 miles north to Weston, Missouri to ski at Snow Creek.  There wasn't a flake of snow on the ground the entire drive but when we pulled into the parking lot the backside of the "mountain" was covered in man-made snow!

The kids did ski school for 3 hours in the morning.  It was such a great ski school!  Even better, we dropped off the kids and the instructors got them completely fitted with their ski gear!  That took so much stress off Tyler and I!

After ski school we took a lunch break to load up with energy for an afternoon of family skiing!  It was so bright that ski googles were a must during lunch!

Love these three ski bums!!!!!!!!!  It was so warm that we shed the winter jackets and wore just rain jackets!
Mason improved SO much from last year and was able to ski on his own (without Tyler holding him up)!  We were so impressed!  And he had the best time!!!  He skiied until his little legs couldn't ski anymore!

These three took over the slopes and dominated!

Harper once again crushed it!  She is usually our most timid and cautious one but she had no fear with skiis on!

Snow Creek was the perfect place for the kids to learn and refresh from last year!

A hotel swim is just what the kids needed after a full day of skiing!
The last morning we explored a little more in Kansas City before heading home
We all were impressed with the Federal Reserve Bank!  It was shocking to learn how much money flows through the bank on a daily basis!  They even got to take home a bag with $165 of shredded money.  Perfect show and tell!

The kids couldn't believe this bar of gold was worth more than our house!!!

We squeezed in so much fun in 48 hours!  Traveling with my crew is my favorite thing to do!  So many memories made!

SNOW DAY!!!!!!!!!!!

The kids (and me) have been hoping for a legit snow day all winter and it finally happened.  On Wednesday we woke up to a beautiful Winter Wonderland of 4+ inches of snow!  No school but unfortunately Tyler still had to go into work.  There was no sleeping in on our snow day because the kids were too excited to start playing!  We were up and out playing by 9:00 am, that includes the hour it took to get everyone dressed in their winter gear!
All the neighbors congregated and we headed to the neighborhood soccer field for sledding!  Different spot than previous years but it was GREAT!!

The kids had NO fear and were flying down the hills!   Their giggles and smiles were priceless!!! They raced, they crashed and did it all over and over and had the BEST time!!

Mason and Parks were non-stop!  They had these smiles for hours!

I wish I snapped a pic of our entire sledding crew but these were the troopers that lasted the longest, almost 3 hrs!!!!

We headed home for lunch and a little rest before round 2!  Snuggling in bed to get warm!
Then back at it!  We made sure to make the most of our snow day!!!

We went back to the soccer field hill, there was so much sledding in the morning that there wasn't much snow left for the afternoon.  BUT that didn't stop these kids!  They raced, raced and then raced again!

Sadie loved the snow as well!

A snow day isn't complete without a snowman.  The snow wasn't sticking so we had a perfect single layer snowman!

The kids slept so soundly after a full day of playing!!! Definitely a day for the memory books, just wish Tyler could have joined the fun!
